Welcome to our blog!  Findlater Photography consists of myself (Aileen) and my husband Layton.  We’re based in Invercargill, New Zealand.

This blog was set up as a more relaxed space to share some of our work.  It’s a place to share our successes; our cautionary tales; let people know what we’re up to; share some of our images, experiments, ideas and inspirations; and give some context to our shoots as well as crediting those involved.

Although we’ll try to share as many client sessions as possible, this will depend on permissions given.  We strongly believe clients have the right to see their images and to share them with family and friends first.  This means most of the time there will be a bit of time between when the images were captured and when we post them.

This blog will largely be written from my point of view with occasional input from Layton.  As he’s the Principal Photographer he will also respond personally to questions, queries and suggestions about his photos via feedback.

As for Layton and I; we both come from backgrounds in the creative fields and both have a passion for storytelling and capturing the world around us.

We believe professional photography’s an investment.  Whether it’s portraits, weddings, commercial work or Layton’s artistic images; we work hard to make sure you get great service and good quality products.  We love to experiment and try new things.  Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t.

Most of our recent client work involves working with off-camera flash and light modifiers.  This allows us to get the best out of a portrait or scene in natural light situations.  It also allows us the use of creative lighting to produce artistic results as well as letting us work in lighting conditions that we wouldn’t be able to shoot in using natural light.
